Square Kufic for Designers: Adobe Illustrator Workshop

Translate the geometric logic of Square Kufic into a controlled vector workflow. Develop a short Arabic word through grid construction, letter relationships and optical adjustment, then prepare an editable composition and a presentation application.

What participants
will take away.
One editable .ai composition, an SVG and PDF export, a PNG preview and one simple poster or cover application. A fully commissioned brand identity is outside this workshop.
- Construct editable lettering with grid, alignment and shape operations.
- Make deliberate adjustments without losing Arabic structure.
- Export a clean source file and presentation assets.

Graphic designers, lettering practitioners and advanced design students.
Before attending
Comfort with Illustrator selection, layers, shapes, alignment and basic Pathfinder or Shape Builder operations. Arabic readers work independently; non-readers need a verified text and review support.
The learning
sequence.
6 teaching hours. In person: one 7-hour day including 60 minutes of breaks. Online: two sessions of 3 teaching hours plus 15 minutes break each, 6 hours 30 minutes total.
Part 2
- Refine geometry and optical balance
- Develop one original composition
- Revise after instructor feedback
- Apply the composition to one poster or cover
- Inspect vector paths, export and final review

Organizer arrangements
Power at every seat, projection with legible interface, reliable internet and technical support; online host and file-sharing arrangement. Confirm licenses and accessibility needs in advance.
Resources and facilitation
Grid starter files, exercise brief, letterform reference extracts with appropriate permissions, demonstrations, critique and export checklist.
Session setup
Computer-lab layout or tables facing the display, with instructor circulation. Online cap 10 protects screen-review time; a host handles access issues.

Can the program be adapted to our group?
Adapt the final application to a cultural poster, publication cover or internal campaign. A shorter session becomes an introductory exercise with reduced deliverables.
